Amigurumi: "MICI the mermaid" / "MICI la sirena"

Today I want to show you an amigurumi that I made this past June for my son's friend in her birthday. The moment I saw this pattern I fell in love with MICI and knew I had to do it.

This is my first pattern from Lalylala and I love it, the pattern is very well written and has plenty of photos and was surprisingly quickly to make, maybe because it doesn't have too many pieces to join.

I used Stylecraft Special DK in Teal for the tail, Aspen for the hair and details and cream for the body. I used a 3 mm crochet hook. The final doll is about 30cm (12") high.

To crochet the tail and hair the pattern suggest to add metallic thread, and the final result is lovely, it is a shame that you can't see the effect on the photos. For this I used Gutermann SULKY metallic: Silver 7009, Blue 7052 and Pink 7012

I love the look of her hair, here you can see it on detail.

The pattern include the instructions to make a sailor hat, but I crocheted a pink starfish instead, basically because it was quickly and I was running out of time. I have to be honest, at first I started to sew the hair onto the head but then I just glued it because it was faster and I don't have too much patience LOLLL

Here you can see the fins / Una foto de la aleta para ver el detalle.

The Drawstring Sling Bag designed by Gary Fletcher, sewn by Lorena my way of...

The Drawstring Sling Bag is a medium size bag. It is very easy and quick to make, one of the best thing is you don't have a lot of pieces to cut LOLL (I don't to cut) It is a great bag for beginners, the pattern has a detailed step by step with plenty of photos. Inside is roomy and doesn't have any pockets, I added a slip pocket and a zippered pocket because I need them. The oval bottom and the interfacing help this bag stand by itself.

Here without the flap, for the drawstring we use eyelets, they are very easy to install.

The pattern has the instructions for a one size strap but I made mine adjustable.

The Spectrum Tote Bag

Hi / Hola

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure to test the new bag designed by Sarah Gido from Cozy Nest Designs, The Spectrum Tote.

Spectrum Tote by Cozy Nest Designs sewn by mywayof

Nice, isn't? This is a very large bag, you can carry a lot on it. It's great to take to beach or the pool or maybe just to go shopping.

Bonito, verdad?

The Spectrum Tote closes with a magnetic snap and inside has a zippered pocket and I added two small slip pockets and a key fob, to avoid lose the key in the bottom of the bag ;). Other tester also added a laptop pocket, yes you can fit a laptop in here.

I used vilene cotton for the interfacing and cotton calico as my interlining, this bag has body but is slouchy.

The Rockstar Bag

Hi / Hola

Sara Lawson from Sew Sweetness has released a new pattern "The Rockstar Bag" and I was lucky to be one of the testers !!!!

The pattern is awesome, has a lot of details and I had a lot of fun making this bag. The piping is optional but I think it looks beautiful.

The Rockstar Bag is a medium size bag, it's roomy enough for your everyday things. There are a lot of pockets: two internal zippered pockets, one exterior slip pocket and a zippered flap pocket, yes plenty of pockets !!!!

I used this red and white text cotton fabric that I had in my stash and paired with black cotton fabric. I also use rivets (I love rivets)

Front, you can see the slip pocket and the pocket flap.

The back / La parte de atrás

It also has feet / Inclusive tiene pies

Stop over Sara's blog to take a look of the other testers' bags, they are all so beautiful and different. You can see them HERE.

Well the bag is even better, it is a laptop bag that came in three different sizes, for laptops of 13", 15" and 17" all three sizes together in one pattern. You can buy the pattern HERE

Buen nombre no?

I love the design, the laptop goes upright, this way is easier to pull it out and The Gizmo Garage has plenty of pocket for everything that you need to carry. This bag have a adjustable strap, yes you can use it like a shoulder bag or a cross body bag, it also has a grab strap.

I made the smallest size (13") for my husband, I used faux leather in brown and a new fabric that I found, "Bean Bag Fabric" yeah LOLL is like canvas but polyester instead of cotton, it's very sturdy and water repellent, great for a laptop bag.

On the back The Gizmo Garage has a table pocket, my IPad and its keyboard fit perfectly

In the front The Gizmo Garage has a big slip pocket great for papers and two pleated slip pocket perfects to storage cables, mouse or anything else that you need.

And one of the best things, is very thin  / Y lo mejor que es delgado

Around the World Blog Hop

Hello you all. Recently my friend María of Mia's Creations asked to join in the Around the World Blog Hop, thank you María for thinking of me. María is very talented and sweet person, she makes the most stunning bags and gorgeous quilts. You can read María's Hop-post HERE. I highly recommend take your time and visit her blog, you're going to enjoy her wonderful creations.

I love Blogs Hop, because they give me the opportunity to discover new bloggers and blogs to add to my bloglovin list.

For this blog hop, we have to answer some questions, this way you can learn a little bit about me.

What am I working on?

I'm currently working in a couple of bags, I have just finished one and started the second one this weekend. I can't tell you more about they because I'm testing the patterns. But here is a sneak peak

I'm also working in a Minion Amigurumi for my oldest son and a Giraffe for a friend. And I'm choosing yarn to crochet a scarf for me.

How does my work differ from others of it's genre?

I don't think my work differs from others, I love make bags and amigurumis, I try not to change so much from the original pattern, just play around with the fabrics, I'm not a very colourful person, I tend to use neutral colours, just sometimes I leaves my comfort zone and use more colours and more "risky" combinations.

When and Why did you start your blog?

I started blogging in March 2011, basically to document all the things that I made and to be part of this amazing community of bloggers. On the road I have met a lot of very nice people and is great how you connect with someone trough blogs.

One of my first post was about some poster that I made with my oldest son for his school, he was only 3 years old. The animal has velcro and you can change the location, he loved it.

Why do I create what I do?

I'm not a very creative person, and a little bit clunky for crafts, for that reason I challenge myself every time to make something and make it good. I started with patchwork but I don't have enough patience to cut all those little pieces LOLL then I started making bags and I love it, I still hate cut the pieces but it worth it.

Here are a couple of the first bag that I made. Now I look at them and think how simple they were, no zipper, no interior pockets. But I appliqué that butterfly ;)

Some of my recents bags

From At Home with Mrs. H: Convertible Bag

From Cozy Nest Designs: Savannah Bag and Convertible/Reversible Bag

From ChrisW Designs:  Stow it All and City Slicker

From Emmaline Bags: Butterfly Sling Purse and The Necessary Clutch Wallet

From So Sew Easy: Easy Clutch

And this one is my own design

Amigurumis are a recently found passion, around a year and half. I learned to crochet making amigurumis and the best thing is that relaxes me.

Here my first amigurumis ever LOLLL my children still have this littles fishes

Here some more recents amigurumis

I love created things, it make me happy finish it and I need to be busy in order to keep my mental sanity LOLLL.

Ok, that is enough of me, now I'm going to link three blogs for you to take a look at. They will be doing their Blog tour post on 8th September and this way continue the blog hop.
